At Bowness Bay Brewing, our commitment to building a sustainable and environmentally conscious future extends to limiting packaging wastage, limiting our carbon footprint and recycling. We take pride in implementing practices that reduce our impact on the environment. Here’s how we contribute to a greener world:

1. Environmental Practices:

Our goal is to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. At the beginning of 2024, we transitioned our packaging process to a new provider, adopting bagless bulk tanker transport. This move not only eliminated the use of 500 bags annually, saving 2000kg of single-use plastic from reaching landfills but also reduced the number of lorry loads by half.   

Our new packaging partner has also contributed to our sustainability efforts with his innovative process of capturing nitrogen from the atmosphere and utilising it as a processing gas instead of using CO2.

These changes collectively represent a significant reduction in our packaging carbon footprint, aligning with our mission to foster a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

2. Recruiting locally:

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our workforce. We strive to recruit locally, fostering a sense of community and contributing to the local economy. By hiring from our community, we not only support local livelihoods but also reduce the environmental impact associated with commuting.

3. Supporting Local Agriculture:

We proudly give our spent grains to local farmers, who use them to feed their stock.  By repurposing our brewing by-products as nutritious feed for local livestock, we close the loop on our production cycle by limiting our waste and supporting the local farming community.

4. Low-alcohol products

The brewing of low-alcohol beers often generates less waste, as the production process is streamlined, with fewer by-products. We actively seek innovative ways to minimise waste throughout the brewing cycle, furthering our commitment to a sustainable and eco-friendly operation.

Continuous Improvement:

For us, sustainability is an ongoing journey and we regularly review and enhance our strategy.

We look for ways to further limit packaging and by-product wastage, support the local community, and reduce our carbon footprint. This commitment reflects our dedication to continuous improvement, ensuring we remain environmentally conscious and keep our impact on the planet to a minimum
